Today’s ride takes us from Rincon de la Victoria to Salobrena in the province of Granada. Since the opening of the A7 motorway, the N340 coastal road is now much quieter for vehicle traffic and this provides a great opportunity for a scenic ride east. The road traverses Torre del Mar and continues to Nerja. After passing through Nerja and Maro the route enters the coastal Natural Park with pine trees and sea views and some undulating geography. The mirador at Cerro Gordo looks over La Herradura and on to Almunecar in the distance and is the ideal spot for a quick photo and refreshment. The undulating N340 continues to Almunecar where we divert inland into the “green valley” and begin our climb towards the village of Jete. Slowly at first as we leave town before the road opens up as we follow the river bed towards the mountains. After Jete a sharp right hand turn takes us to the real challenge of the day, the climb to Itrabo. Even though it is a relatively short climb it gives a kick from 7% to 15% in places and takes us to the summit of the days ride as we reach 1000 meters of climbing. A short descent into the village of Itrabo and it’s the perfect place to stop for a coffee and refill the bidons. After the break it’s time to head back to the coast and descend back to the N340 at Salobrena.

We return along the coast getting a second chance to enjoy the scenery as the mountains fall into the sea.

Another great day out.
