Nerja is a small coastal town in the province of Malaga, Andalusia, Spain. It is situated on the eastern Costa del Sol, and is known for its beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes, and traditional Spanish architecture.
The town itself is filled with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and charming squares, and is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and laid-back way of life.
Some of the most popular attractions in Nerja include its famous Balcon de Europa, a cliff-top viewing platform that offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the Caves of Nerja, a series of underground caverns that are home to some of the oldest rock paintings in Spain.
With a warm and sunny climate all year round, along with a wealth of cultural and outdoor attractions, Nerja is a popular destination for tourists from around the world.


Nerja has grown to accommodate 21,000 residents, with one-third being international residents. Despite this growth, the town retains its local charm, particularly vibrant during market days and festive occasions.


Nerja is on the far eastern side of the Costa del Sol, in the area known as Axarquia. Malaga airport, train and bus station are easily accessible, and connect you with the rest of Spain, Europe and beyond.

The primary public health medical centre is on the road leading into Nerja, with a 24/7 emergency room.
For more serious medical needs, the nearest fully equipped hospital is located in Velez Malaga, approximately half an hour away.
There are numerous dentists and shops selling and hiring mobility aids.


There is a busy town centre with all manner of shops from clothing to ferreterias (ironmongers), grocers to supermarkets.
The Nerja street market is on Tuesdays. On Sunday, there is a second-hand market which is very popular.

Public Transport

Nerja is connected to Malaga, Torre del Mar, and outlying villages and towns via the bus network run by Alsa and Infobus.
The station is within the town centre and has direct buses to Malaga, from where you can catch the train or ongoing buses across Spain.

Sports Facilities

The town has an excellent stadium with tennis courts and swimming pool. And you’ll find all the usual water-based activities down by the coast.

Nerja enjoys the usual Easter, Christmas and summer feria events which you’ll find in every town and city of Andalucia.
