Children all over Spain will be excitedly awaiting the Three Kings (Reyes Magos) on the night of the 5th January! Shoes shined and left outside their door for the Kings to fill with goodies (and of course leaving something for the camels).
This is the big Christmas celebration in Spain, and whilst there weren’t the usual parades this year (I personally don’t mourn being hit in the head by boiled sweets), many towns did put on socially distanced celebrations like the drive-through parade in Vélez-Málaga.
6th January is a public holiday and an important family day in the Spanish calendar. Gifts will be opened and Roscon de Reyes shared. We hope you find the little king in the cake and not the bean!*
I read an article today about how many children in Málaga had requested in their letters to the Kings for the end of Corona virus and the ability to hug their loved ones and play with their friends in 2021. I think we can all get behind those wishes.

* if you find the king you are king for the day, if you find the bean it’s your turn to buy the Roscon next year!
