Torre del Mar Area Guide

Torre del Mar is a popular beach resort situated on the coast of the Andalusia region in southern Spain. Located in the province of Malaga, Torre del Mar has a long stretch of golden sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and plenty of amenities and facilities perfect for an amazing vacation experience.
Torre del Mar is a bustling town with a harbour, a promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, bars, and ice cream shops. The town has a vibrant nightlife and visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities such as water sports, golf, tennis, cycling, hiking, and horse riding.
The 4 kilometre stretch of beach is accessible for all with children’s playground, free fitness areas, lifeguards and a flattened path along the beach from one end of the town to la Caleta de Velez. The promenade also runs the length of the beach.
There are also many cultural attractions to explore in Torre del Mar including the Fortress of Torres de Mar, the Roman ruins at nearby Algaba, and the impressive 16th century Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Whilst there is a growing ex-pat community of northern Europeans, Torre del Mar is still very Spanish and attracts Spanish tourists during the peak holiday season.


Torre del Mar is on the eastern side of the Costa del Sol, in the area known as Axarquia. Malaga airport, train and bus station are easily accessible, and connect you with the rest of Spain, Europe and beyond.

Torre del Mar has several doctor’s surgeries, both public and private. There are at least six pharmacies in the town itself, with more in the suburbs, including 24-hour.
Torre del Mar also has a hospital.
There are numerous dentists and shops selling and hiring mobility aids.


There is a busy town centre with all manner of shops from clothing to ferreterias (ironmongers), grocers to supermarkets.
The El Ingenio commercial centre has the High Street brands under one roof along with smaller boutique shops and a large supermarket stocking international foods.
Street markets are popular and a good place to buy local produce. It runs on Thursday mornings in Torre del Mar.

Public Transport

Torre del Mar is connected to Malaga, Nerja, Vélez-Málaga and outlying villages and towns via the bus network run by Alsa.
The station is within the town centre and has direct buses to Malaga, from where you can catch the train or ongoing buses across Spain.

Sports Facilities

Torre del Mar has a wide range of public and private sports facilities. On the paseo maritime (promenade) there are tennis, pádel, football and basketball courts for hire from the town hall.
The town also has a leisure centre.
Free fitness machines can be found on the beach. During the summer the waterpark is open.
There are a number of membership clubs for tennis, pádel, golf, sailing, swimming, and gyms.

Annual Events

Alongside the usual Easter, Christmas and summer feria events which you’ll find in every town and city of Andalucia, Torre del Mar has some additional annual events.
Weekend Beach Festival: In early July, the musical festival attracts around 40,000 to the town. For those who want to escape the revelry, the neighbouring beaches are popular, as are the mountain villages where the heat is generally less intense.
Air Show: This event is usually held at the beginning of September over a weekend. It is a spectacular event which attracts thousands of visitors.
